Hi Alex & Shené, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Senior center members can watch Lebanon’s newest garden grow

Members of the Lebanon Senior Citizens Center now have the opportunity to pick and plant fresh peppers and tomatoes at the new community garden just steps away from the facility’s front door.

The Lebanon Community and Education Garden opened its wooden gates to local residents on June 14 at a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by Wilson County nonprofit Vine Branch Fellowship.

Lebanon Community and Education Garden Ribbon Cutting

Vine Branch Fellowship hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on June 14th to celebrate the Lebanon Community and Education Garden. The ceremony was conducted by the Lebanon Wilson County Chamber of Commerce.

Vine Branch Fellowship gardens, such as the Lebanon Community and Education Garden, help teach people about healthy eating while also providing free food for people in need. Vine Branch Fellowship has been planting gardens and using them to teach people in Wilson County about healthy eating since 2019.

LSSD students learn gardening at school

Students at Lebanon Special School District schools Coles Ferry, Byars Dowdy and Sam Houston are learning about growing flower and vegetables from seed until harvest.

Healthy Eating At the Table Nutrition is a program that provides classes to peoples and families who may have dietary restrictions or want to have healthier food options.

The HEAT gardens project is a partnership between LSSD and Vine Branch Fellowship.

The students grow leafy greens, tomatoes, carrots, turnips, peppers, herbs, green beans, radishes, squash, cucumbers, zucchini and flowers. The produce is harvested by the students and staff of the schools, as well as volunteers so it can be donated to local help centers and the senior center…

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex and Shené Scott. They, along with their team, shared their story with us below:

In 2001, Alex and Shené Scott committed their time and energy to serve their communities in youth ministry, as a firefighter and a teacher. Due to their passion for helping others and the life-altering events they experienced while performing their career responsibilities, they focused on volunteering to assist those individuals and families they met. In 2013, they, as well as their two children, experienced life-altering challenges within their family. Shené was strickened with severe food allergies, including gluten, peanuts, and tree nuts; Alex was experiencing issues with hypoglycemia. One child was diagnosed with gluten sensitivity and the other with Type 1 diabetes…
